Ring Size Rings It is much easier to measure your ring size before you buy a ring than to adjust a ring after you've bought it. 2 ways to figure out your ring size:
Measure a current ring
- For an exact fit, place the ring on a professional ring sizer mandrel. Click here to purchase a mandrel on eBay
- For an approximate fit, print out the chart below and place the ring over the nearest size circle. This is a less accurate method than the mandrel so it is preferable to take a larger size than a smaller if the ring is between two options. The inner edge of the ring should align with the outer edge of the circle.

Measure your figure
- For an exact fit, use a professional ring sizer. Make sure to measure your finger at room temperature because heat and cold can cause mis-sizing.
- For an approximate fit, create a ring sizer by printing out the strip below, cutting the sizer out and inserting the narrow end through the "cut here" slot. Making sure the numbers are on the outside, place the loop around your finger and pull until fit is snug but comfortable. Read the size off the scale.

Adjusting the size of a ring you bought - Adjusting a ring more than two sizes in either direction can noticeably impact its look and structure and is often not recommended by jewelers.
- Platinum - Is a more difficult metal to resize because of its density and strength. Some jewelers will not resize platinum.
- Adjustment process - Increasing the size of a gold or silver ring typically requires gently hammering the ring around a sizing shaft. This will cause the shank of the ring to thin slightly and, in some rings, the end result will not be perfectly round.
- Gemstone rings - For rings with stones, it may be better to make an incision in the ring and remove or insert extra metal. This is also the preferred method for increasing rings by more than 1 full size. This adjustment may leave a visible seam or an invisible weak point, but a professional jeweler can position flaws out of sight.
